Finally – Did You Know?
- Charlton Athletic FC was founded by a group of teenagers from an area close to the present-day site of Thames Valley.
- Charlton’s main rivalry has traditionally been with Millwall, as the clubs’ grounds are just four miles apart. An additional rivalry emerged with Crystal Palace in 1985 when the Addicks shared Selhurst Park due to refurbishment at the Valley. Palace’s then-chairman Ron Noades angered Charlton fans by deliberately inflating the rent.
- Charlton finally returned to the Valley Stadium in December 1992, beating Portsmouth 1-0 in their first match.
- Charlton won the Division One title in 2000 with ninety-one points. This points tally was a club record.
- Goalkeeper Sam Bartram played in 623 matches for the Addicks between 1934 and 1956. Bartram holds the record for the most appearances for a Charlton player by quite a distance, but the total would have been even higher had it not been for the six years lost to World War II.
