Reading Personalised Football Diary
Fantastic Diary Gifts for Fans of the Royals!
Reading FC formed in 1871 following an inaugural meeting at Bridge Street and became founder members of both the Southern League and the non-localised Division Three. In 2001, Reading became the first team to register their supporters as an official member of their squad. The club’s number thirteen had been deserted following the departure of Keith Scott and it was suggested that this would be a great way to recognise the influence that fan support can have on the outcome of a match.
The Royals play in blue and white hooped shirts and this tradition began when official numbers were added to kits, as figures were difficult to read on strips that featured vertical stripes. In 1990, John Madejski bought Reading FC, stabilising matters behind the scenes and providing hope for the future through sustained investment. In 2006, his input was rewarded, as Reading reached the top flight for the first time in the Royals’ history.
Our Personalised Reading Diaries reminisce upon a range of fantastic games from the past fifty years. Featuring reproduced match reports from our newspaper archives and starting from the month of your choice, these unique A5 Diaries are a fabulous gift idea for any fan of the club.
Diary Highlights
One of the highlights of our Personalised Reading FC Diaries is a series of match reports on important games that led to the Royal’s promotion to the Premier League.
In 2002, Reading drew 1-1 with Brentford to ensure a runners-up place in Division Two and automatic promotion to what would soon be called the Championship. The club kept on improving and building towards the top flight, despite manager Alan Pardew leaving his position under acrimonious circumstances. In 2005, Reading played a league match against Pardew’s new club,West Ham. The Royals dominated the game and eventually won 3-1, sending a reminder to Alan Pardew of what he had left behind and consolidating Reading‘s position as contenders for another promotion.
The following season started brightly and striker Leroy Lita was impressing with his performances. The Diary Gift contains two of his best games from the season; the 0-2 victory against Wolves and a thrilling 3-2 win against West Bromwich. By the end of March, Reading were on verge of history. The Royals beat Derby County 5-0 to win the Championship and guarantee the club’s first ever promotion to the top flight. Our A5 Diary also features the team’s 2-5 victory against Cardiff City FC from the following week, as Reading celebrated their success in style.
Another highlight of this popular Diary Gift is the 4-1 win against Luton Town in the 1988 final of the Simod Cup. The Royals had beaten four sides from the First Division during their incredible campaign and over 60,000 Reading FC fans travelled to Wembley stadium to see the club lift the trophy.
