Manchester United Personalised Football Diary
Terrific Diary Gifts for Man United Fans!
Manchester United FC, often referred to as Man U, was formed in 1878 as a works team of Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Depot in Newton Heath. In 1892, the side severed attachment with the railway and became an independent football club. Although United came close to bankruptcy and bailiffs closed their ground in Baker Street, the manager of Manchester Breweries stepped in to invest in the club, saving the Red Devils from the impending threat of folding. With a constant stream of silverware and star players, Manchester United have gone on to become one of the most famous and accomplished football clubs in the world. Boasting over 330 million fans world wide, the Red Devils are also one of the most valuable teams, not just in English football, but in the whole of sport.
Our Personalised Manchester United Diaries feature a selection of newspaper reports on some of the most famous Man U wins from the past century. Written by journalists who were there at the time and starting from the month of your choice, these A5 Diaries are an essential gift for any supporter of the club!
Diary Highlights
These Personalised Manchester United Diaries feature match reports on the title-clinching games of 1952 and 1997, in addition to a special article celebrating the club’s Premiership triumph in 2006/2007.
The popular Diary Gift also incorporates five Man United FA Cup finals, beginning with the 4-2 win against Blackpool in 1948. The 3-1 win againstLeicester City in 1963 was an even more emotional occasion, as it was the first major trophy the Red Devils had won since the Munich air disaster of 1958 had devastated the club and depleted the squad. In 1983, Man U won the cup by beating Brighton 4-0, and this famous win is sandwiched between two final triumphs over fierce rival Liverpool FC, from 1977 and 1996 respectively.
In addition to domestic success, the A5 Diary also focuses on three European titles. In 1991, Manchester United were struggling in the league, but defeated FC Barcelona 2-1 in the European Cup Winner’s Cup Final. Eight years later, Man United were back in a European final, with even more resting on the result. After winning the Premiership title and the FA Cup, the Red Devils were aiming for an unprecedented treble by claiming the Champions League. All had looked lost when Bayern Munich entered injury time with a one goal lead, but two United goals in rapid succession completed one of the greatest comebacks seen in European competition. In 2008, Manchester United beat Chelsea on penalties to win the club's third Champions League trophy. This win was especially poignant for United, as it had been exactly fifty years since the Munich tragedy.
