Sunderland Personalised Football Calendar

A Brilliant Gift Idea For Fans Of The Black Cats!

Sunderland FC won the First Division title in just their second professional season. The club won a further five championships before the 1940s and became the first league side to score more than one hundred goals in a season. The team received many plaudits from fans and respected football journalists through the years and the Black Cats stayed in the First Division for a staggering sixty-eight consecutive seasons - a feat only bettered by Arsenal FC. The club was nicknamed “The Bank Of England" when careful management and sustained success allowed Sunderland FC to spend freely on transfers after the war. However, in 1957, the Black Cats were found guilty of paying their players above the maximum wage and the club was fined heavily. The scandal led to relegation and inconsistent results have plagued Sunderland FC ever since this disappointing fall from the top.

Our Personalised Sunderland Calendars feature an impressive selection of reproduced match reports on some of the best Sunderland games from the past century. Starting from the month of your choice, these A3 Calendars are a brilliant gift idea for any fan of the Black Cats.

Calendar Highlights

The Personalised Sunderland Calendars begin with the 2-7 win against Birmingham City in 1936, which guaranteed the Black Cats a sixth First Division title. An FA cup trophy followed at the end of the next season, as Sunderland beat Preston North End 3-1.

Our A3 Calendar then moves on to the Black Cats' surprising FA Cup triumph of 1973. The club was based in the Second Division at the time and came up against Don Revie's Leeds United in the final. Considering the position of the two teams, few people gave Sunderland a chance of winning. However, a fantastic volley from Ian Porterfield on the thirtieth minute clinched a 1-0 win for the Black Cats.

In 1979, the club's centenary year, Sunderland beat West Ham 2-0 to earn promotion to the top flight. It was a great achievement for the club, but unfortunately it was to be the last celebration for the fans for quite a while. Later in the decade, after worsening performances, the team fell down to the Third Division for the first time in Sunderland FC's history. In 1992 the future looked brighter, as Sunderland beat Chelsea 2-1 in the FA Cup quarter-finals. It would provide the club with increased confidence and the team reached the Premiership four years later. The following seasons were inconsistent and included relegation, but the Black Cats beat Bury 5-2 in 1999 to earn promotion back into the top flight.

In addition to these matches, the Calendar Gift also incorporates both a Tyne-Wear derby and a Tees-Wear derby. In 2000, Sunderland beat Newcastle 1-2 at St James' Park. In 2005, Sunderland beat Middlesbrough 0-2 at the Riverside.
